Orlando Support for Black Lives Matter

Black Lives Matter

Since the beginning of developing the concept of Orlando Fashion District, our two core values have always been diversity and inclusion.

Our goals to celebrate, embrace and support people expressing themselves through fashion, costume and beauty are being achieved.

Working together to collaborate and co-create through the different ideas and perspectives we all have to offer, is valuable. We wouldn’t want to live in a world where we all looked or dressed the same. It would be boring. Mixing flavors and styles to create something new is evolution.

Creativity thrives on the differences in perspective we know variety can bring. We believe in offering opportunities to experience and support the expression of art and creativity through the eyes of different cultures, educational backgrounds, genders, skin colors, age, sexual orientation, physical appearances, weight, height and differently abled perspectives, not always supported in Fashion.

Although there is no way to truly understand what it’s like to walk in a black person’s shoes, we can be empathetic, try to imagine, feel for the community and support the fact that Black Lives Matter.

We are not naive, we know many are more privileged, in so many ways, but we know we CAN START by becoming who our black community needs us to be, so they can feel safe, heard, understood and supported.

We can insist on change moving forward by leveling the playing field, signing petitions, making new laws, educating ourselves, our children, and those around us.

By believing we can create a new world, we can achieve it.

We can work together toward solutions and a brighter future. Contrast brings clarity. When you know what you don’t want, it helps you more clearly define and work towards what you do want.

When we can turn the tragedy of George Floyd’s death, into a catalyst for change, he lives on. The lessons we can learn from this man’s suffering, can change the world. We can create new standards and solutions, starting now.
